TETRAGONA ALBA - From Finland. 1 - 2" miniature white flowers. Plant has a one to three foot spread and will grow in water 1 - 12" deep. Sold Out. May be available in 2011.
WALTER PAGELS - 2 - 4" creamy light apple blossom pink blooms with lush, army green foliage. Plants spread one to three feet and will grow in water 6 - 20" deep.
Several others in a variety of colors may be available at the nursery.
HARDY WATERLILIES
These need a larger pond with space to spread out. As with the miniatures, feed them well and give them plenty of sun.
Zones 3-11
DUE TO A BIT OF AN OVERSTOCK (these things are prolific) IF YOU PICK THESE UP AT THE NURSERY (and we don't have to pack and ship them) THE PRICE IS $5.00 PER PLANT (and we'd love it if you took a lot of them)
ARC EN CIEL - grown as much for its colorful leaves which are speckled in shades or red, pink, white, purple and bronze as the flowers which are an enchanting shade of pale lavender pink. Holds the blossoms above the water. $15.00
HOLLANDIA - double bowl shaped light pink with leaves backed with purple. $15.00
ALMOST BLACK - Velvety maroon black semi-double blossoms of exquisite character. Holds the blossoms above the water. $15.00
LOTUS
We finally have enough lotus in our 2 ponds to offer these for sale. They aren't very good in a small pond (though we have grown them in tubs quite successfully), but with space they are just glorious with their umbrella sized leaves and huge, but delicate flowers.
LOTUS 'IMPERIAL' - This is the larger of the two we are offering. Leaves can be 18 inches across and flowers sometimes 10 inches. Just magnificent. $25.00 for large 'bananas'. Best planted in spring. We'd rather not ship these.
LOTUS 'SHEWAN BATSU' - Slightly smaller, but no less gorgeous. White blooms with pink edged petals. We used a large kiddie pool for this one. They don't need deep water like water lilies and so may be easier to find space for, despite needing quite a bit of space. $25.00
BOG OR EDGE PLANTS
ACORUS CALAMUS 'VARIEGATUS' (Variegated sweet flag) Semi evergreen perennial, marginal water plant grown for the beautifully striped, sword like, tangerine scented foliage. Cream variegation flushed with rose pink in the spring. Frost hardy. Full sun. Will grow in up to 10 inches of water. Zones 4-10. $5.00 per large division.
ACORUS GRACILLIMA VARIEGATA Thin, dainty yellow and green striped leaves. Grows in shallow water, boggy areas or just a damp spot. About a foot tall. $5.00 in quarts.
CALTHA PALUSTRUS (Marsh Marigold) Deciduous, perennial, marginal water plant that has rounded, dark green leaves and bears cluster of cup shaped bright golden yellow flowers all summer. Zones 4-9. $5.00 per large division.
HYDROCOTYLE 'CRYSTAL CONFETTI' Loves moist soil at the edge of the pond or bog. Delicate, tiny round leaves in a soft green with a creamy edge. $5.00 in quarts.
IRIS LAEVIGATA AUREO VARIEGATA A delightful variegated iris, tall, yellow and green leaves. Demands full sun. Likes moisture but will grow dry. $12.00
IRIS PSEUDACORUS (Yellow Flag) An especially robust clone, taller and with larger flowers than the species. Shiny dark green leaves. Prefers full sun but will tolerate semi shade and thrives at the edge of the pond, in a bog or in the garden, though if grown dry, will be slightly smaller. $5.00 in quarts. $8.00 in gallons.
LYSIMACHIA NUMMULARIA 'AUREA' (Golden Pennywort) Prostrate perennial. Creeping, rooting stems. Round soft yellow leaves which will be pale green in deeper shade. Bright yellow flowers. Wonderful for softening pond edges but will grow in dryer spots in sun or shade. $5.00 in quarts.
RANUNCULUS FLABELLARIS - Water Buttercup. About 3 feet tall, thin leaves and large buttercup flowers. Caution is advised with this one because it will want to take over any pond in which it is planted. Solution - give it it's own small pond where you can thoroughly enjoy this one that blooms in early summer and then may rebloom in late summer. $5.00
TYPHA ANGUSTIFOLIA - narrow leaf cattail. 6 feet tall. Gracefully twisted leaves. To zone 3. $10.00
TYPHA LATIFOLIA VARIEGATA Variegated Cattail. I wish the picture showed the variegation better as it is quite noticeable.
